The last 9-10 months have been quite the trial and error for me. Throughout this period, I’ve made a couple of moves that didn’t resonate well with my core values and instincts. This phase has led me to question myself more than ever, as I find myself pondering whether my uncertainty stems from my age or if it’s simply indicative of the challenging times we’re navigating as a society. It’s uncharacteristic for me to make choices based purely on what I perceive I “should” do, rather than what feels right within my gut.
I consider myself fortunate to have the ability to pivot from two significant decisions during this time. One of those pivotal moments was when I made the heartfelt decision to leave my salon in south Denver, a place that had become a big part of my identity. This change felt monumental, but ultimately necessary for my own personal growth. More recently, I took a smaller leap with my business, hoping for a change that would align more closely with my instincts.
Currently, I am cautiously optimistic, finally feeling like I’ve made a wise decision, or at the very least hoping that this choice proves to be fruitful. Originally, when I moved my business to Boulder, I attempted to scale way down by renting a station in a small organic salon. In theory, this seemed like a smart move—an opportunity to simplify and refocus. However, I soon realized that I wasn’t adjusting as well as I had hoped. While it became clear that running a salon wasn’t in my future, I still craved my own space and brand identity.
Consequently, after only five weeks, I made the necessary pivot to renting a one-chair studio in a beautifully designed facility. This was a scenario I had longed to return to for quite some time. Initially, in my quest for practicality while rebuilding my clientele, I had opted for the more modest path. However, I came to the realization that I truly thrive in an environment that I can call my own. Ignoring my instincts for so long proved to be counterproductive, and I finally decided that it was time for me to embrace the freedom of having my own space again.
Now, after this shift, I already feel so much more settled. The feeling of being in a space that reflects my own vision and creativity has reignited my passion for my work. I am excited about what lies ahead as I venture forward with renewed energy and a clearer sense of purpose. This experience has reminded me of the importance of listening to my instincts and choosing a path that resonates with who I am, regardless of external pressures or expectations.
Another pivot, and this one is a bit more fun, is that I’m trying out a couple new clean/low tox hair color lines.
