Salon Improvements and More..

I’ve decided it’s time to revamp the salon space and I’m quite excited about it! I’ve just renewed my lease for another 3 years (can’t believe its been 2 years already) so I’m really planting roots where I am. I’ll document and update as things get going, but to summarize, I’m having the hallway/stairway area leading up to the salon painted, new floors put in the salon, and I’ll be getting a proper sign to make it easier to find me. I may rearrange the space a bit for better functionality, yet maintain the homey, eclectic decor that clients seem to love. I can’t wait!

I have a couple of deals I’ll be offering this spring. First, all retail will be sold at 20% off, including Innersense. If you are not currently using professional grade hair products which are optimal to maintain your color and hair health, this is a great time to switch and stock up.

Second, I have an overstock of extensions in various colors and types including tape ins, I-tips, and K-tips. If you’ve been curious about trying some extensions, set up a consultation today. I will be charging for the install only which is a fantastic deal as hair bundles run about $200/pack. Volume installs, up to 2 rows only with this offer. Offer good while supplies last.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Happy 2024!

I’m feeling optimistic and ready for this year. The last few months of 2023 were a little challenging as I had hired two employees over the course of 4 months that didn’t work out. It was a bummer but I think it helped me realize that I’ll be be better off flying solo. I’m going to focus my energy on salon improvements, better client service, and personal growth that is needed. I’m also going to focus on more education and optimize the whole client experience. I want your visit to feel like a luxury or the reprieve you need from the stressful day to day life tends to bring. My salon is yours and my safe space.

I added extensions to my menu last year, and I’ve been enjoying building that side of my business. I absolutely love using extensions for volume purposes as my goal is to enhance your hair’s natural beauty rather than drastically changing it. I especially love K-tips since they last longer for my low maintenance clients. You can also experiment with vivids my adding a few pieces of your color of choice without bleaching or dyeing your own hair.

I’m still accepting new clients for color/highlights/balayage, keratin treatments, and extensions as these are the services where I specialize. I still offer cuts with those services, but I’ve paused on offering haircut and blow out services as solo appointments, for new clients. I feel that I need to focus on my specialized services as this is where I thrive.

For those clients that are on a budget and/or need to stretch their color appointments, I offer custom color touch up kits. You don’t have to be a regular client of the salon to purchase a kit. You may simply come by for a consult, and I’ll custom your color to match your hair. The kits are for grey coverage, color matching, glossing, or going darker. I also sell reusable bottles, bowls, and brushes for an additional charge. Reach out for more information.

I’ll conclude this post by saying thank you to my clients and future clients for choosing me as your stylist. I truly love what I do and it’s so lovely cultivating relationships while I get the privilege of making you beautiful. I look forward to seeing you in my chair. Happy 2024!

Interested In Low Maintenance grey blending?

I love that one of the silver linings that came out of the pandemic is that more women have started embracing their grey hair more than before. While it may seem counter intuitive for a colorist like myself to encourage that, I absolutely love evolving clients to grey blending/low maintenance services. I don’t want any of my clients to feel like they’re a slave to 3-4 week coloring, because lets face it, if you have a lot of grey, you see that grow out in even less time than your color appointment. Now, that’s not to say I don’t support you if you’re perfectly fine with that maintenance schedule, but for those who want to know their options, I’m here to offer solutions. Plus, if you’re someone who is allergic to color, grey blending is a great option as well because I can avoid putting color on your scalp.

The picture below is of my lovely client, Amy. She’s someone who is about 75% grey with the heaviest concentration in the front. Amy is a good example of someone who was coming in about every 5 weeks for single process color but she had developed allergies over the years. She would usually have reactions the following days after every color appointment, despite the low toxicity of the color we use. I suggested, when she was ready to start embracing some of the greys, that we start foiling color into her hair and stop putting color on her scalp. This is about a year since she stopped base color, and its so stunning. Now she comes in about 8-10 weeks and no longer has allergic reactions to the color.

A couple of things to note when transitioning with the foiling method, is you will have to get use to having lighter hair. Grey/Silver is essentially light or “white”. Amy was about two shades darker when she use to do all over color. But now when she has regrowth (roots), it’s hardly noticeable and blends very well with the overall lighter shade.

Grey blending foiling is the easiest way to transition out of doing single process/all over color. It’s a more gradual process and the adjustment period is minimal.

Now, one could decide they want to go fully grey and have the colored portion of their hair transitioned to match their roots, but this is an extremely lengthy and corrective process. While it’s doable, keep in mind that the hair will go through a process of bleaching, lowlighting, multiple toners, and some inches cut off the hair due to color buildup. Plus it’s not a one time deal. The hair will still technically be colored, so there is still maintenance necessary (albeit way lower maintenance) until it eventually gets cut from the hair. This article is a great example of the lengthy process https://www.allure.com/story/colorist-jack-martin-gray-hair-transformation (image below by stylist Jack Martin)

No worries if you aren’t ready to embrace your grey yet. I offer color kits for those who need frequent touch ups to cover grey but would like to space out their color appointments due to time and budget.

Come in for a consultation and let’s figure out the best, low maintenance color path for you. Thanks for reading!
